About This Website

The University of Chicago has an ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive campus climate. This website was created as a resource for UChicago educators who are committed to incorporating practices for inclusive pedagogy into undergraduate and graduate/professional classroom settings.

The website is an adaptation of a model created by the Faculty Innovation Center at the University of Texas at Austin. Its development at UChicago was led by staff in the Chicago Center for Teaching (CCT), and several leaders of UChicago's Diversity & Inclusion Initiative provided ongoing feedback and support.

Inclusive pedagogy refers to the way courses, classroom activities, curricula, and assessment are designed and delivered in an attempt to engage all students in learning that is meaningful, relevant, and accessible. Instructors must make an intentional effort to bring diversity and inclusion to the forefront of the classroom in order to teach inclusively. By doing so, you can help your students overcome barriers to learning and belonging. You can also enrich the lives of students by exposing them to a broader set of perspectives.
